Kodikkalpalayam resides in south-west region of Thiruvarur district which is part of Tamil Nadu state, India. It’s history dates back to 11th century when Thiruvarur was one of the capitals of the Chola Empire during the reign of Kulothunga Chola Emperor. Our ancestors migrated to Kodikkalpalayam in the year 1452 AD. Though agriculture was their main source of income, some of them ventured into small business in the urban areas of Thiruvarur. Later, some travelled beyond shores to South-east Asian countries (Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Burma) for business. This diaspora led to the arrival of Kodikkalpalayam residents to Singapore then Malayan Peninsula in the 17th century.
Thus, the connection between Singapore and the Kodikkalpalayam started more than 300 years ago. Over the years, youths and families from Kodikkalpalayam have migrated to Singapore for higher education and work. Now we have more than 100 families and about 600 people from Kodikkalpalyam residing in Singapore. To integrate Kodikkalpalyam people in Singapore & encourage friendship among them, KODIKKALPALAYAM ASSOCIATION (SINGAPORE) was established in 2018. KAS is chartered to promote the educational, moral, cultural, social, business and family values among members and their children.

With its origins tracing back to the influx of Arab traders who spread Islam along the Malabar Coast, Thuckalay has long been a melting pot of cultural diversity. During the British colonial era, the allure of economic opportunities led waves of Indian immigrants to seek new horizons in Singapore. Settling in Singapore, they not only established businesses, money exchanges, and mosques but also infused the island’s cultural fabric with their diverse culinary delights such as Rojak, Mee Siam, and Prata.
